Island with a palm tree

Crying face

See You Next Time

Last post talked about my trip to 娘家。This post talks about 小妹's trip to 我家.

One month (well… almost one month). Time flies. Too bad that I had to go back to work. Feel a bit bad about leaving her on her own most of the time.

And she did so much housework for us: making desserts, hanging and folding clothes, wash dishes, cleaning up after us, tidying up the office floor, unloading the dishwasher, providing a distraction to 小Jso that we could work on something else etc.

Now that she’s gone, I’m worried. How are we going to pick up all these ‘extra’ housework??

I hope I didn’t slave her too much (I didn’t request her to do them. She volunteered.) and I hope she had a good time in here and didn’t find it too boring.

And it’s nice to have an extra body at home la.

As I always said, if it’s not bcos of 大小二J,I think 我回流了喇。

On a separate note, the futon that we’ve bought two years ago finally

HK Home 2013

Went back to 娘家 for the whole month of April. Didn’t do much. Just staying home and visiting family and friends. It was actually quite a nice stay. The only stress comes from 小J.

I think he had a very gd time there as well. Eat lots of food. Went to the park pretty much every day. Got lots of personal attention from everyone.

I had a very healthy time there. Work out once a day for 85% of my time there. Went jogging quite a bit. Shredded some pounds (altho has already gained them all back now I’m back in TO) and even made my PB of jogging the furthest in one go. Quite proud of myself. I’ve got to say, without work and with my family around to take care of 小J(and me! I basically don’t have to do any housework), it’s definitely a LOT easier to keep up with the exercise regime.

Didn’t meet every single frd that I meant to see cos apparently, some people simply has no desire to see me ever again. I reached out. Some of them gave me a minimal response but when trying to pin down an exact date and time, that person never got back to me. Some didn’t even respond to the first message. Felt a bit like broadcasting my request for contact to the universe and received no response bcos the aliens simply didn’t want to be in contact with me human. Oh well… I tried.

Some other frds tho,

雖然有被人唾棄的時候,但能夠 get back in contact with some good friends, 算落我算是賺了。 ^_^

Camping 去

Went camping this long weekend.

It was a little tough with my current body condition, especially getting in and out of the little two-person tent. But it wasn’t unmanageable. I was glad that I bought a relatively thick air mat this time tho cos it definitely helped the sleeping.

We went to Presqu’ile Provincial Park this time. It wasn’t a bad campsite but it was very buggy. We got eaten alive by mosquitoes.

The weather was great. Sunny everyday. Clear clear sky for star-gazing at night. No moon either. (I almost always ended up going camping on full moon by chance that it affected my star-gazing but this time we were super lucky) Can’t ask for too much more. It was just too bad that I didn’t expect myself to stay up late at night to star gaze. If I knew that I would and that the sky would be so clear, I would have brought my tripod and took some night shots… What a waste of opportunity!

We went hiking for a little bit. The first trail (marsh trail) was gd. The other two were kinda deadly, especially the Newcastle Trail. We weren’t hiking in that trail. We were running for our lives. We didn’t even finish it. Luckily there’s this spot where the trail joined the main road so we just came out of the trail and walked along the main road back to the parking lot instead.

Saw a lot of little frogs on Owen Point Trail. Too bad that there were way too many mosquitoes around. Otherwise, we could have enjoy this trail a little more. It’s also a little tough for me to hike as well cos I get tired quite quickly. I was glad that the trails weren’t too long so it was still doable.

The beach was not bad either. Water wasn’t too cold so we all ended up going into the water. Not the cleanest water tho. Pretty cloudy water. Definitely not dipping my head under. Saw a very cute baby playing with the sand and eating some of them. haha… Also saw a kid who chased and shot water at his grandfather/uncle but when the grandfather/uncle got him back, he started crying. What a suck! Hate kids who do that.

It also turned out that it was the history week in the campsite so there were some activities going on. Most of them were for kids tho but we did go to two of them. Not particularly exciting activities but it was kinda nice and it gave us something to do.

And K媽 brought a 毽 to 踢. And even I was playing, too. Can’t believe I still 踢毽 with my clumsy body! haha… K媽 and 賴 were pretty gd at it (gd compared to me and 詹占 anyway). It was surprisingly fun.

First time to go camping with K媽. She’s fun. And extra wonderful cos she doesn’t mind doing the dishes! haha… And 賴 pretty much took care of the cooking. I simply had to help here and there. SWEET!

This is the last summer event that I’ve planned this year, before my whole life style changes forever (just hope that the change won’t be too big and that the changes are good changes).

Hopefully, I can still go camping next year!

Mini-Vaca

Was quite nice. We didn’t have much of an agenda so we mostly just wandered around, looking at shops and such. Even tho I’ve been to Quebec City a couple of times, we still managed to find some spots which I’ve never been to before.

We totally lucked out on the weather. Sunny everyday while we were there and most of the time, not too too hot, as long as you stay in the shade.

Had one fancy dinner on the first night. And some non-fancy ones after. I was surprised that we didn’t eat as much as I thought we would. Probably getting too old, stomach and appetite shrinks.

The expected huge bonus we’ve got out of this trip was that there were two free things at night. One was a 3D projection show that got projected across the river to the huge industrial buildings. The content of the show was… er… not so good. It’s some sort of history of Quebec/Canada from the old days to the modern days but it’s little too artsy with little context so it’s quite hard to follow. I am glad that I’ve taken my citizenship test recently so that I can put some of the things into context. But I really wonder how much does the non-Canadian tourist could get out of this show. The show was long, too. About 50min. We stayed for about 20-30min. It wasn’t too 3D but it was quite impressive to see such a large projection. And it’s free so I try not to complain too much.

On the other hand, the 2nd free show was AWESOME. It was an outdoor free Cirque du Soleil show. It was almost an hour long. Tons of ppl came out. I mean, you have to stand for an hour and all that but it was great. It’s nice of them to do free shows. I wonder if those performers were newbies who aren’t quite gd enough for the real thing yet so they give them this free show as a training ground. It doesn’t matter tho cos they are pretty gd, other than this one guy whom I’ve noticed that he failed twice. Apparently, they do it through the summer so if you happened to go to Quebec City this summer, make sure you don’t miss out this free show!!

There were also all kinds of street performances. And Elton John was in town! Not that we went to his concert but we did witness the craziness of all those ppl who lined up before noon out in an open area under the hot sun in order to get a good seat for the concert at night. Pretty insane. I wonder how many ppl had heat stroke.

Pics of the trip ma… have to wait wait. Since I’m still in the process of finishing up the HK trip and I’m busy with the youth camp pictures these days as well… Really don’t know when I’ll get to this one. =_=

Oh oh… almost forgot to mention. Flying Porter is quite nice, especially the Toronto Island lounge. They give you free water, coffee and juices, as well as almonds, short bread cookies and some other snack while you are waiting for your flight. And nice couches to sit in. And newspaper available for you to read. Felt like a VIP! ^_^

Waiting for the ferry to cross was dumb tho. The other side was so close. I was telling 詹占 that I could probably swim over there faster than waiting for the ferry.

The plane itself wasn’t that special. My seat on the return flight actually kinda sucked. There was some sort of crumbs on it cos they didn’t have time to clean the cabin.

It was definitely nice to be able to get to Quebec in an hour tho, without the ten million pee breaks in the case of a car ride. I just regretted it that I didn’t eat more of those free snacks in the Toronto lounge cos there’s no lounge on the Quebec side, just the regular old airport. It was also relatively easy to get to, without having to taxi or park-n-fly and all those hassles. Will consider fly Porter again in the future.

Mini-Vacation

詹占 n me 要襯在十月前去一個小型旅行,因為十月後會爆忙,plus we’ll probably go back to HK for visit later this year. Due to the limited budget and time, we’ve decided to go to Quebec City for a weekend.

的,but due to unforeseeable circumstanace, even if we go to P.E.I., we won’t be able to fully enjoy the cycling and all the other activities that we wanted to do.  So we’ve decided to defer it once again (yes, P.E.I. was supposed to be last year…). Too bad cos I sure do miss the seafood that once again slipped away from my reach! XD

We have both been to Quebec City before on our own. 詹占 hasn’t been for many many years while I’ve been there like 3-4 times since I’ve came to TO. The last time I went there was probably 5 years ago. It’s not supposed to be a highly adventurous trip anyway. We just want to get out there and wind down a little.  Niagara-on-the-lake was another option but then we’ve both been to Niagara together and that it’ll probably still be doable after October as a day trip or something so Quebec was our choice.

We finally booked everything last night. Hotels near Old Quebec City aren’t cheap!!  :S We eventually settled with a hotel that’s at the edge of the Old Quebec City. We’ve also booked only the accommodation instead of one of those packages due to limited budget. Not as ideal as it could be but it’s all gd. :)

Going to fly Porter to Quebec, too, as opposed to driving there.  So that alone is something new. Never fly Porter before. Wonder what it’s like. Probably doesn’t matter much cos the flight was just an hour long anyway.

Just have to wait till departure date! 期待-ing.  ^_^

Camping

Book 咗個 site lu. Quite excited cos 娜娜子 said that she might come to Toronto and join us.

In a way, I hurried so much to book the camp site is bcos of her la. Otherwise, I’d let 小賴 do it and it wouldn’t be a big deal if he dragged too much and ends up not getting a site. 大不了咪冇得去,but if 娜娜子 is really coming, I better have something entertaining for her to do la.

Well… she’s been saying that she would like to come for a few years already. Just talked to her this morning and it seems like the chances of her actually coming is still a big uncertainty.

But regardless, now that I’ve booked a place that I’ve never been to myself, I’m getting quite excited. Have to wait till Aug though. Seems so far away. I can hardly wait!

But really, job well done la and I hope that you had fun also.

Thank God that it hardly rained the whole weekend. I heard that it POURED in Toronto. The temperature was nice. Since it's so late in the season, the number of bugs were quite minimum. I mean, I still got some bites but it could be way worse.

Mexico Take 2

If it wasn't for the wedding, I doubt that I would go back to Mexico. At least not this soon.

This time I went to central Mexico. According to Mr.S, it's as far away from a beach as you can within Mexico. So no lazing around the beach, doing nothing and getting sunburn. The city we went to is called "Aguascalientes", which means hot water. So we did went to try to hot spring there. The spring wasn't too hot. It was more like warm water. Regardless, it was still very relaxing to just lying around in the warmth. My first hot spring experience.

I also had my first tequila in my life in this trip. Way to go. If you are having tequila, you better start in where tequila first started, right? ^o^

What I've done in the trip will be described by my photo album (when I have time to upload my pictures) so I am not going to repeat here.

The wedding though, was the funnest wedding I've ever been to. Not that I've been to a whole lot of weddings but this one was definitely the best one so far. The food was awful, in my opinion anyway, cos almost all the food are super spicy. I cannot eat spicy food. So even though the food itself was quite tasty but I just can't taste it. The only flavour that I could taste was the spiciness.

But the fun part was the dance. Oh man, almost everyone went out to dance. It was great. The locals all knows the songs. And the band has all kinds of props and toys. They brought out a boxing ring for the bride and groom and the in laws, with capes and masks for them to wear. And they all got really into and pretending to be fighting and stuff and that made it really fun. Everyone else were cheering from the side and dancing with the music.

There were also these necklaces. They put them on ppl randomly and it turned out that whoever got it have to do a dance with the pole in the middle of the circle. And nobody who has received the necklace refused to play along. And it's all just fun and stuff, not low class at all. Then they brought out this huge caterpillar thing and there were tons of balloons hiding inside so when they open the caterpillar, so everyone were playing with balloons. I know it sounds very stupid but trust me, it was fun. I was even in this jumpsuit at one point with a few other girls to pretend to be some sort of Mexican boy band and jumping around like an idiot. haha... I wouldn't say that I got forced into it but more like "encouraged" to do so.

There were more little toys like huge balloons and stuff and it was all very very fun. There wasn't any bride and groom games that I usually hate but was all little group stuff like the balloons that anyone can participate.

Really, the Mexicans know how to do weddings. Ten thumbs up!!

The sucky thing was, JJ got sick after the wedding and I got sick the day after. The red eye flight back to Toronto was delayed for 2 hours. And we weren't able to sleep on the plane. I usually can get at least an hour or two but no no no, not this time. So the whole end of the vacation was just very very painful and we were really glad when I got home.

But still, it's a nice vacation. Not one of those deadly vacation where we go hiking and cycling and all those crazy activities but nice and relaxing. Looking forward to the next vacation.

Finally

Time for vacation.

My last vacation was over a year ago in last May. It's time now. Part of the reason to go is for a wedding, a gd motivation to force me take a vacation.

Mexico this time. But no, not all inclusive Cancun, but in the middle of nowhere little city in central Mexico. It's gonna be HOT. If it wasn't for the wedding, I don't think that I would go to Mexico again, at least not so soon since the last time. Last time I went to Mexico during Christmas time to Yucatan, I nearly had a heat stroke. I can't imagine what is going to happen this time. Well.. if I never ever update this blog again, you know that I had died in Mexico...

This is also the most unorganized vacation I've had. Other than having the plane tickets and hotels booked, we have hardly plan what we are going to do there. We haven't even got the local currency yet. I tried to go to the bank to get some Mexican Peso but guess what? I tried two banks and called another one and none of them carry Peso in their branch. I was supposed to order it a week in advance. Argh... I guess I can only get them at the airport, even though the rate is going to be worse. But I don't have any choice. That's the price I have to pay for being unorganized. >_< We are going to be there for about 10 days in this little city. We might end up being super bored. Well... hopefully not...

Even though it's all unorganized and all that, I'm still very looking forward to the trip. I'm really really looking forward to have a break from real life and relax both my body and my mind.

As I was telling 小笨,work and church are both trying to fill my schedule to the fullest possible and to make sure that I will have everythng done before I leave. I still haven't started packing yet and I'm betting on packing all night on Wed cos I'm leaving on Thur early morning. This probably means that I'll forget this and that and this and that in my luggage. Just hope that $$ can solve my problems, whatever problem I'm going to have. Hopefully, I won't forget anything. Fingers cross.

Have a nice trip! (to myself. ha!)

Peru Trip

Back from my trip for a week now. Back in the work force for a week. Have been kept very busy with work and church and last night was the beginning of ultimate season.

Trip was great. Definitely recommand to anyone who are interested. But if u ask me if I would go again, the answer is quite definitely "No". It's something that you would do once in ur lifetime but never again. Frankly, it was quite a bit of suffering to walk up and down those mountains. Legs were so sore after all those walking. But if anyone's interested in doing that, let me know and I can give you a ton of tips to help you make it thru.

I still couldn't believe that I walked 4 days with my huge backpack on my back. There're other tour company out there that they carry ur stuff for you everyday so you only need to carry your little day pack. But I was glad that we went with a company where we carried our stuff sleeping bags and stuff. Besides being a vacation, it was also a personal physical challenge. Now, I can proudly tell people that I've done the Scared Inca trail and I carried my own stuff. (but really, carrying my own stuff does not include tent and food cos the porters of the company carries them. But still, I did carry all my personal stuff and my backpack was quite full.)

I think that the trail itself was difficult enough even at sea level with lots of stairs. It was even harder when the altitude was AT LEAST 3km most of the time (highest point was 4.2km above sea level), the air was so thin that it was hard to get enough oxygen. Walking a few stairs and we were already huffing and panting. Adding the huge pack on our backs, it was very tough, especially bcos I have also decided to haul my camera with extra lens and making sure that I have enough battery power, my pack was at least 8-10lb heavier than what it should be. But it wasn't even a question whether I should bring my camera or not cos I'm going to Machu Picchu man. How can I not bring my camera??

The trek was tough but it was worth it. Met some fun ppl in our group. Got to see the Inca ruins along the way that lazy ppl who took the train directly to Macchu Picchu won't be able to see. It was awesome.

Our tour guy was great. And he's funny, too. I'm glad that he was our guide. :)

Almost all the people in our group is from US.

我都有掛住 city 既野,就係我張床,四日三晚,係露營,it gets really cold at night up in the mountains. My sleeping bag is a little too short for me. In order to cover myself up, I had to sleep in the form of a 蝦米.But in order to do that, I had to sleep on my side and sleeping on my side wasn't the best way to sleep in a tent cos the ground was too hard. So I didn't sleep too comfortably but still... it wasn't too bad. I didn't complain about it.

Even though our tour company let us carry our own stuff. We do have an option to hire an extra porter to carry things for us, either the whole time or just on the 2nd day (the most physically challenged day where we had to walk 5 hours of stairs to go up to the highest point of the trek). I was honestly quite tempted to get a porter on the 2nd day. Glad I didn't and glad that I survived.

So two of the people in our group hired a porter for the whole trip (while a few hired only on the 2nd day) and we learned at the end of the trip that the porter is a 62 yr old man. And they were laughing at themselves and said that it was really shameful that they paid a 62 yr old man to carry their things (the two of them are about 26, 27 years old). That was so true and so funny.

It was also really funny that we spent more time getting drunk in a village near Machu Picchu than in Machu Picchu. We had to wait for our 6pm train to go back to where we started in the little village. Nobody had enough energy to leave the little restaurant and walk around the little village. Not that much to see there anyway cos it's all souvenir shops. Well... 詹占 and I went out for a quick look cos we were hunting souvenir for 詹占's mom.

Remembering that last day's morning was crazy. In order to see the sun rise at Machu, we had to wake up at 4am to pack our stuff and had breakfast and wait at the gate (the government does not allow anyone to start walking on the trail before 5:30am) in order to be one of the first ones to arrive at Machu. My first time to hike in the dark. And we were all going rather quick despite the fact that we were mostly broken and sore everywhere. And the annoying UK ppl who were walking ultra slowing and blocking everybody. And the virtually vertical stairs near the end while everybody had to get down to "climb" with both legs and hands. (probably can do without hands if u don't have a huge backpack on u so that u don't feel like u are falling backwards but I won't try anyway. It's some serious stairs.)

And then finally reaching Machu. Took a lot of pictures of the same thing. Just to make sure that I do at least get a few gd ones. (I suspect that they all looks the same though! haha... haven't got time to _really_ look at them yet. Quick scan told me that they look ok. Post-sible. Just have to get them organized) Machu Picchu was great. Very 壯觀, especially u look from afar up from the "sun gate". It was awesome. I was so glad that I did hike the trail in order to see Machu Picchu from that distance. Our tour guide said that we totally lucked out on the weather cos it was very clear (got really hot in the afternoon though). He said that the area is normally very very foggy. His group last week didn't get the see Machu Picchu at all from the distance cos the whole thing was just covered by fog. Thanks God for the nice weather!!

And then by the time we actually got there, there were a ton of tourist already. Well... it wasn't too bad cos Machu Picchu is such a big site that you don't really feel _that_ cramped compared to the Ocean Park in HK.

Also did some little tours in Cusco. Pictures will tell the rest of the tale (when I eventually got them all uploaded :P).

Great trek, combination of physical challenge and tourism. Loving it!
