Citrics Problem

No luck with citrics the whole summer.  No matter what I buy – oranges, tangerines, clementines, they are all super dry.

I normally don’t mind a little dry oranges but those are so dry that it’s not even edible. And there is no flavor at all. Let’s say an orange. Normally, when it’s dry, it’s only one side. The other side is usually still okay. So in the spirit of not wasting food, I would bite off the non-dry side, trying to eat as much as possible. But this time, the whole thing is so dry and the flavor is just non-existent that I gave up trying. Had to toss them out.

I even tried and buy from fancy Longos.  Not as bad but similar problem. They are barely edible but still don’t taste good at all.

Don’t know what’s wrong with the citrics this year. It’s not a particularly dry year, I don’t think. I normally like oranges/clementines as one of my regular fruits but after multiple failures, I am wary about buying any more citrics. Sad smile Is it just my bad luck or is it happening to everyone?? I don't know smile

南瓜饅頭+焗飯

呢排就是有興致,之前弄了幾個都是小食甜品的,今次就來些較重量級正餐的。我自小鍾意食饅頭,加上屋企有D由 Halloween frozen 到家下既南瓜蓉,於是一見到這個食譜就好想整,咁啱上星期三因為醫生 appointment right in the middle of the day,唔三唔四既關係,我直情攞一日假,就有時間係無小J干擾下,自己整。

其實唔係第一次整饅頭,但今次係好幾次以黎發得最好,外觀最靚既一次。

雖然係個人最靚,但比起人家食譜的相還差好遠。而且好似無乜南瓜味道。看上去很好看,但吃入口總是覺得不夠買 frozen 饅頭的那麼鬆軟。是因為街買的 frozen ones 不夠真材實料還是 frozen ones 都加了不知什麼化學品嗎?

其實我都覺得好味,只是如果要比較的話就覺得遜了點。


本身食譜教的是白汁蝦仁焗飯,我自己改了點,加了蟹柳,同加了紅蘿蔔和意大利青瓜,咁就一大堆頭搞掂,唔駛另外再煮 veggies. 唔知係咪因為我加咗咁多嘢既係,感覺上這個焗飯比食譜形容的多功夫很多,也弄了很久。

我個人覺得好味,略嫌汁少了一點,但這個可能跟我加咗太多其他嘢同 double 咗個 recipe 有關。小J更是吃了兩碗之後仲話要多D,我哋驚佢又食到肚痛唯有 offer 少少水果去 distract 佢。小J這個人是好吃旳就搏了命的吃,唔知飽,好危險。

新煮意

呢兩個星期 weekend  無午睡,多咗D時間玩煮飯仔。

大部份既都係我襯小J午睡時做一半,再等佢瞓醒幫手做埋剩底既一半,因為如果唔俾佢整佢有時會發爛。親力親為的孩子。

以下既都係我跟簡易食譜做的,小妹又 send 了另一個 blog 俾我,入面有好多食譜,很閒既時候我都想試試。

焗西米布甸

小J一聽到係布甸,以為係好似我之前同佢一齊整既芒果布甸一樣,勁興奮。哈,太笨了。

其實不太成功,因為我無加餡,有Dplain,同唔夠甜,小J第一天勁愛吃,第二天就說不喜歡,真難捉摸。Confused smileIMG_20140711_205224

葱油餅

又係不太成功,覺得唔夠鬆軟,很麵包的。

這個弄了很久才做好,皆因小J幫手碌麵粉,佢碌得好認真的。

我個人覺得唔夠咸,下次會落多少少鹽,同埋下次會再碌扁 d。

港式蛋撻

這個以前整過一次,但原來已經係3年多前的事,早知整之前睇返以前個 entry 啦,因為個結果同上次差唔多-太甜...

這個小J有幫手倒蛋汁,蠻好的,基本上無倒到週圍都係,I was quite impressed by his patience and care.

小J超愛吃,第一日食完之後,我將剩底既收咗入盒,佢第二日放 daycare 一返到屋企,就走入廚房(準備煮飯),一入到去見唔到D撻就即刻問D撻去咗邊,驚死俾我食哂咁。Laughing out loud要等我show 俾佢睇喺D盒入面,佢先放心。

基本上,以上三樣都唔算成功,全部都係得個樣,D味真係差咗D,我都係無乜煮既既天份,跟住 step-by-step instructions 煮都可以唔太好味,不過唔緊要啦,玩吓者,唔係煮俾其他人食,大小J無乜味蕾,乜都食得入口,佢哋做我既白老鼠啱哂。Nyah-Nyah

All I Can Eat

老了老了呀,去任食也食不了多少。

其實也有一排無去任食了,對上一次係去韓燒。去完我自己都覺得唔抵。

但更奇的是,同我一齊去的幾位年輕人(十來歲那種年輕),也不比我吃得多,更覺唔抵,我諗住我食得唔多,佢哋可以搭救吖嘛,點知仲衰。

尋日去同詹占食瑞士燒雞(因為有 gift card),加埋小J三條友,一個 quarter chicken meal 加一個三文治 meal 再加一個 appetizer 咁都食唔哂。我仲要係入去既時候超肚餓的。好在無叫兒童餐唧,如果唔係蝕鬼哂。

雖然係咁,但我成日都心思思想去食日本任食啊。小J的未來契媽年輕同埋都好擦得,等我下次捉埋佢去食先得。不過要有排等喲,呢排小J好似厭倦壽司,上次詹占同佢出去,佢冇乜點食;上上次我哋三個出去,小J又係冇乜點食...

馬拉糕

一直都以為馬拉糕D咁既嘢係一定要出街食先得,但小妹近排成日整嘢食,發現到個馬拉糕食譜,係佢測試過幾次成功咗之後,仲send埋個食譜俾我,好似幾容易咁。今個星期六得閒,又唔想出街食,就試整了喇。

由於小J一定要幫手,加上食物份量係要磅,比較麻煩的關係,我要前一晚量好哂D嘢,到朝早簡簡單單係小J倒埋一齊撈幾撈就可以蒸。詹占喺前一晚有幫手量份量。所以呀,呢個馬拉糕係我哋三個一齊整的第一個馬拉糕!In love

唔可以話係好成功,尚有很多可以 improve 既空間,但食落去d味都好ok。

我擔心only馬拉糕會悶得滯,煎多幾條煙肉等個早餐話哂都多一Dprotein.  結果就係一個中西合壁的早餐。(上圖的小手是小J的)

O Noir

Went there for 詹占's birthday celebration last month.

I have heard about this restaurant for a while already and have always wanted to try it out. Finally found the excuse to go. Flirt male

It’s pretty cool. We went in from the wrong entrance tho so we entered into the ‘lobby’ of what looks like a cheap cheap motel and was all confused. And the attendant there told us to go to the basement. I was all skeptical but followed the instructions anyway. Getting out of the elevator, altho there’s a ghetto sign that says “O Noir” but there wasn’t even one soul to be seen there. No waiter/waitress to greet us, no sight of other customers.

We wandered a bit and then finally saw someone…

Anyway, the big selling-point of the restaurant is that customers enjoy their meal in utter darkness (guess that’s why it’s in the basement). The servers were all blind employers (the chefs and cashiers were not tho). So we ordered our dinner in the lit louge area and then we were led by our server, Victor, to our table where he gave us some instructions, telling us where to feel for our cutleries and napkin and glasses.

The meal was fun. I had two of my courses as ‘surprise’ so that I can test my taste bud. James wasn’t quite adventurous as me and regretted it afterwards cos he said it would be more fun to have to guess what he was eating. Oh well… 你自己點菜時話唔要order ‘surprise’ items. 無得怨. Smile with tongue out

I had problem guessing some of the items in my appetizer. It was weird cos I could clearly tell that I have had that food before and that both the flavour and the smell was so familiar, except that I couldn’t put a name to what I’m tasting. Took me _a long time_ to name it out – strawberry. And there’s also the unripe avocado which I guessed correctly (tho I wasn’t very sure the whole time). It’s kinda weird that they serves me unripe avocado. I wonder if that’s a mistake.

It was hard to try to finish everything on your plate cos you don’t really know if there’s anything left! Disappointed smile Have to fish around, while trying not to get too messy with my hands.

I was surprised by how well Victor was locating us and handing us stuff. I know that it wouldn’t be a problem for him to navigate around the different tables and things cos he’s familiar with the place but he could even hand us drinks and food to our hands. That was something cos it involves interaction with different ppl and different ppl have different height and they move differently. Anyway, he was good.

Some ppl cheated tho. We saw a few flashes of lights from either ppl’s cellphone or watches. Maybe they were just trying to turn them off. I wasn’t sure. I mean, why go there if you are going to cheat, right?Thinking smile

The food wasn’t spectacular but it’s worth the experience. Quite special.In love

Jacob Club

是我兒時最喜愛的朱古力 bar 之一。

很久沒吃過也沒見過,耐到我連它的存在都忘了,直到最近牧師去完英國買了一大堆給不相的團契和聚會時吃,我一見到就已經忘了形囉,兒時的回憶喲!Send a kiss

還記得當年的廣告是有一隻犀牛好大力咁撞去一舊大 Jacob Club 朱古力,咁都只係撞到一個角跌咗出黎,廣告的意思大概就是說舊朱古力真材實料,犀牛都撞唔散吧,當時很小,都不太明白廣告想講乜,只知道是Jacob 朱古力。雖然唔係好明,但咁多年後我都仲記得,相這個廣告都算成功了吧。

牧師買的只是一大堆橙味的,但我小時候還吃過提子味的,也都很好吃,我也都很愛,上網找一找圖,發現原來唔係提子味,是fruit味,(可是我明明就記得只有提子,well… 提子也是 fruit, 這也不算的講大話)。仲發現原來仲有 mint 都 chocolate 味(chocolate 味的朱古力?!大概是原味 milk chocolate 吧。)

我個人對 mint 無興趣,原味的也興趣不大,但真的很想再吃到提子味。

其實由於我參加多個教會活動,牧師又每組都買了手這,所以我其實吃了很多!!hahahahaha…

There’re some british sweet store around (and some even are brit chocolate store) in TO. Maybe I should check them out to see if they have these.

I kinda want them to have them so that I can eat but I’m also worried that if they have them, then I will keep going back to buy more and eat too much. 心情茅盾啊~~I don't know smile

Got Scammed

well… sorta.

Bought this groupon to a middle eastern restaurant for supposedly a “dinner buffet”.

Turned out that it’s only the salad bar that was the ‘buffet’ part. For the main course, we could only choose one main course and two sides.

The main course is a choice of different kebob and it came in one skewer. The two sides were also quite pathetic, in my opinion. I ordered steamed veggie and some sort of middle eastern rice. The rice was alright but the veggie tasted so bland and it wasn’t very steamed – the broccoli and cauliflower were so hard. The meat actually wasn’t bad but the portion was so small.

The salad bar wasn’t that good, either.

Luckily we went there with a discount. But even then, it’s just ok for the price. Not to mention if I had to pay full price for this meal, I would totally 鎚心口。And I really dislike the fact that they advertised it as a ‘buffet’. Felt like they are trying to deceive ppl.

The only good thing was that the waitress was very nice. But that alone wasn’t enough for me to go back, especially bcos the restaurant wasn’t even in my area (only went there cos we had to go somewhere afterwards).

蝴蝶酥

阿某整餅既時間又到。
襯上星期自己一個人在家的時間,試做了一樣一直以來都很想整的餅 - 蝴蝶酥!

不過是真的很洒時間的喲,光是做酥皮,搓了又搓,又要摺又要雪,已經用了大半天;第二日再正式的做蝴蝶酥,又用了兩三小時,這些蝴蝶酥真的是用我寶貴的青春換返黎架!

味道不錯,可是就嫌焗得不夠脆,下次(如果有下次的話 :P)要改善改善。

麥牙糖

前幾個月有人好 random 咁送咗一盒咸餅乾過我,都唔知要黎做乜好,於是買左一小罐麥牙糖,弄一弄小時候愛吃的咸餅乾麥牙糖三文治。

真的很愛吃,sweet and salty.

但而家d咸餅乾就食哂嘞,但仲有少少麥牙糖剩番,其實除咗要黎夾咸餅乾,我係唔知麥牙糖仲可以要黎做乜。

有冇人知道?

弄包包

My latest attempt to make baguette.
My last couple of attempts all ended up in under-sized (mostly too short) baguettes.
This time the result was pretty good (I think!) with the very new yeast.
It was so good that I decided that it was good enough to give one to our neighbour. :)


Problem with making baguettes is that from making the sponge to kneading to shaping and baking, it took the WHOLE DAY. I started at around 10:30am and the baguettes didn't come out of the oven until 6pm! It's not that I was working on it the whole time but it takes a lot of waiting around for the dough to raise.
Definitely a weekend venture only!

對上一次弄是很久之前的事喇。
其實一直都很想再弄的,但就是沒時間嘛。
上星期日,小J乖乖午睡的時候,再加上詹占在家幫忙看著小J, 就乘機弄了一打。
今次用的是不同的食譜,效果比上次好一點喎。
可是,入了焗爐之後小J就醒了,結果顧此失彼,撻皮燶了一點。
好彩只是丁丁點燶,所以仍然是很好吃啦!hohoho...

Made some 饅頭 during the new year long weekend.
Not my first time to make 饅頭 but this is probably the first time that it turned out good cos I used brand new yeast. Made a big difference.
Last time I made 饅頭 was probably 3 or 4 years ago. Need to make it more often. I love 饅頭! :D

砵仔糕

尋日因為有food delivery,人家仲帶來了一個砵仔 糕。 本身不太愛砵仔糕,但也不是抗拒,砵仔糕總是給 我家鄉的感覺,而且有食物送上門,加上我我咁為 食,當然是說句多謝然後大飽口福。 以我記憶,砵仔糕有幾種,有分有豆同冇豆,同埋啡 色同白色,共四種選擇。我個人prefer白色冇豆,但 通常賣的都是啡色有豆,正正是我prefer既 opposite, 所以我通常都唔會對砵仔糕記寄以乜野厚 望。 其實我唔明d豆係度做乜,砵仔糕,話明係糕,當然 係食舊糕啦,d豆霸住哂d位簡直係厄錢。 你又prefer那一種呢?,

Vita Lemon Tea - Revisit

So I’ve found some of the old style packaging again in NF. What is going on? Does it mean that the one that I bought the other time was 假冒維他的假貨?

I’m genuinely confused right now. It is quite possible that the one I bought last time was boot leg product since all the other Vita drinks’ packaging remained the same (the short, wider package) .

EDIT: So I tried to look it up online and found this Vita website. So it seems like all the Vita lemon tea are genuine. The skinny ones are the special flavor I supposed. And the 3rd flavor that I couldn’t remember last time was the lime one. I think I would just stick with the chubby package since it’s the original one and I have always loved it.

Bad Lunch

基於唔想去咁遠既理由,去咗一間明知比平時買開外賣貴一點的港式茶餐廳買 lunch, 買咗午餐焗葡汁雞扒飯.

結果呢,那個所謂的葡汁除了是黃色之外,根本一d葡汁味都無,基本上係乜味都無,都唔知係乜鬼汁黎架,好似係d水加生粉整到佢"結結哋"然後加d黃色素落去咁.又勁細碟喎,我呢排既胃口因為個胃被頂住同埋少做運動既關係,食量比之前細咗好多,一碟干炒牛河可以分兩餐食(認識我既人就知我不時食幾多嘢),但呢碟葡汁雞扒飯食完我仲好似唔係好飽咁,即係半碟干炒牛河都不如.

杯奶茶又細又無茶味.

把鬼!真正的貴夾唔飽,貴夾唔好食!

維他檸檬茶

有沒有人發現維檸檬茶的包裝改了?

由從前的肥矮包裝變成了瘦長包裝.

仲出咗三隻不同的口味.由於唔知邊隻味打邊隻味,我買咗其中兩種入camp,super icy 嗰一 pack 無飲到,拎咗返屋企,誰知 super icy 既味道係薄荷味,好難飲耶!(我個人唔喜歡薄荷味)

是薄荷味就直說嘛,叫什麼super icy唧?害得我買錯了,而家仲剩五包,都唔知要黎做乜.

下次買的時候真的要很小心,因為三隻味的包裝基本上係差唔多,驟眼望落去三隻都係一樣咁上下樣,只係打斜形容係乜味嗰度唔同,下次要小心唔好買錯!

今次買咗嗰兩 pack 既另一 pack應該係原味(唔記得咗叫乜名), 唔知第三隻是什麼怪味呢?個味既名我都已經唔記得咗,記得好似係怪怪的,所以選了 super icy 都無選那一個.如果下次要試,我一定唔會買六包裝咁笨,買一包試試先唔好再俾佢坤.

原味咪好好哋囉,做乜咁出埋咁多古靈精怪既味啫?討厭.
